OVERHAUL OR RESTORATION OF A CLOCK MOVEMENT

When a clock movement is overhauled, it goes through our multi-step process to ensure it will run for many more years to come.

Our Meticulous Overhaul Procedure is Outlined Below

1. Remove the clock movement from the case.

2. Inspect the movement for any signs of wear.

3. Formulate a course of action to repair the movement.

4. Clean parts individually in an Ultrasonic cleaner with specialized clock cleaning solution.

5. Perform all repairs including bushings and part fabrication where necessary.

6. Test the gear trains for end shake and proper alignment.

7. Assemble the movement.

8. Place on test stand and begin 1 week testing phase.

9. Mount movement in case and begin final test.

10. Clock returned to customer and backed by our 6 month warranty.

Routine maintenance of mechanical clocks should be performed every 4-6 years. Our service includes removing the movement from its case, thoroughly cleaning the movement by hand, inspecting it for any wear, careful lubrication, and then replacing the movement in the case while making sure it has the proper beat for a level surface.

NEVER, REPEAT NEVER, OIL A CLOCK MOVEMENT WITHOUT THOROUGHLY CLEANING IT FIRST.

MOST SHOPS DO NOT TAKE THE EXTRA STEP OF CLEANING. THEIR PRACTICE IS TO DROP OIL OVER THE EXISTING DIRTY OIL. THIS PRACTICE SPEEDS UP THE WEAR PROCESS AND DECREASES THE LIFE OF YOUR CLOCK. IT WOULD BE LIKE TAKING YOUR CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE MECHANIC JUST ADDS NEW OIL TO THE ENGINE WITHOUT REMOVING THE DIRTY OIL FIRST. ALSO, NEVER USE A SPRAY LUBRICANT, SUCH AS WD-40, ON A CLOCK MOVEMENT. THIS WILL CAUSE THE GEARS TO BECOME STICKY AND UNFORTUNATELY LEAD TO A VERY LARGE REPAIR BILL.
